Your First Visit

At Family Dental Surgery, we make sure all our new patients feel welcome, safe, and taken care of. We understand that patients can feel anxious when going to the dentist, and our clinician will take the time to listen to all of your concerns and help you understand exactly what your procedure is going to be like. Here's a list of what you would expect on your first appointment.

Book an appointment
The best way to get started with us is to give us a call and our friendly staff will ask you some questions to understand your concern, and then book you in with your preferred dentist.

Review your medical history

Our dentists will assess of your medical and lifestyle risk from your completed new patient registration and history. The form takes a few minutes to finish. The dentist has an obligation to obtain these records.

Perform a dental examination

Our dentists will perform a thorough dental/oral examination with possibly X-rays of your teeth to check for cavities and general dental health. The dentist will carry out an examination of your mouth, gums and teeth and ask you any questions relating to your oral health. The dentist will answer any queries, discuss the diagnosis of your condition. As part of the examination, the dentist may also administer scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to clean your teeth. We would like to create a healthy mouth for the best possible start for any future dental treatment.

Set up a treatment plan

Our dentists will go through preventive and treatment options and their costs. This includes hygiene tips to take away such as brushing and flossing teeth, recommended lifestyle changes and food diet.

Schedule your next appointment

Our dentists will then book you in for your next check-up appointment. The dentists are best placed to understand the integrity of your teeth and the next steps.
